How do I sign up to receive food?
The Ferndale Food Bank is committed to the mission of distributing food and support to all community members in need, with dignity, respect, and understanding. Single individuals and families can visit once a week for as long as assistance is needed.
If you need food, simply come to the Food Bank front desk Monday, Wednesday, or Saturday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am (except for posted holidays). We’ll have you fill out a form at your first visit and then show you how to make your grocery list. No need for identification or proof of address. We’re happy to guide you through the simple process. Located at 1671 Main Street next to the WTA bus station.
If you have questions, please call us during posted hours at (360) 384-1506.
When can I drop off donations?
We accept monetary and food donations, Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 8:00am to Noon. Should you want to drop something off outside of these times, please call the food bank director at 360-223-0788.
What do I need to know about food donations?
We can accept nonperishable food items up to one year past the sell-by date. After much research, we have determined that beyond that date the nutritional value and quality is compromised. Baby food must be distributed before the sell-by date ALWAYS.
We cannot accept home canned veggies or jams. Gosh, we wish we could! If you are a home canner, would you consider giving a workshop to our clients so that they can apply this useful craft in their own homes? Give us a call!
Is it best to donate food or money?
All donations help us to fulfill our mission of providing nutritional assistance to those living with food insecurity. Your monetary donations go a long way in helping us to add perishable items like dairy, fresh produce and frozen protein into our distribution.
What kind of volunteer jobs are available?
There is always something to do at the food bank. Many of the tasks in the warehouse require that you be able to lift 25 pounds. We also sort and display produce, repackage bulk donations and have face-to-face interactions with the clients. Stop on by the food bank and we’ll give you a tour and see where we can plug you in!
